Pronunciation and the art of hearing

We found a dieing rat outside of our office doors this afternoon, and in attempt of telling our Director of Facilities a third party to the conversation said:

"Don't they give you 'poop-on-a-plate'?

My eyebrows shot together faster than white on rice!

"Pardon?" My questioning ear spoke on their own accord. (A sight to see)

"Poop-on-a-plate' that's what rats carry, isn't it?" She repeated and expounded.

"Do you mean 'Bubonic Plague'?"

"Yes, that's what I said - 'poop-on-a-plate'"

Needless to say, I had to leave the room before I had an accident in my skivvies.

Lightbulb moments

2008 feels like it started out quite bleak. However, since January 1st I’ve come to a huge realization about myself.

One is - I don’t like January, never had, but never acknowledged it. I suppose because it brings the realities of winter. I know winter starts in December, but it kinda slides in there unnoticed in the milieu of Christmas. Then BAM! January/winter , connected at the hip! Cold, depressing January! I don’t like the month of January.

And 2nd – I am a “glass half empty” person. This realization hit me like a ton of bricks. I should have seen the writing on the wall, but had never connected the dots. (Could I use any more metaphors?).

I was listening to a morning news program and the woman was talking about how, when she’s packing for vacation she is already thinking about how close she is to the end of her holiday time. And it sounded so like me. Her co-host accused her of denying herself pleasure. Not able to live in the moment. And once again – I knew this was me.

I really dislike this part of my character, but also know that it was set in motion (and cement) many, many years ago. In my nappies I learned disappointment. That it was safer to go into a situation of expecting the worst, and not to hook my self on any hopeful star.

The trick now, at the ripe young age of 45 (almost 46) is to unlearn a (bad) habit. To grasp every single, precious, special moment you can get your hands on and get excited to breath and feel today. Live for THIS moment! Whichever moment you’re in.

Or .... I could just continue living as I do, vicariously through each of you.

I hated High School

You paid attention during 57% of high school!

51-67% You are smart enough to be ashamed of still scoring so low; remember that there are books in the world, full of information? Yes, books are our friends.

Do you deserve your high school diploma?
Create a Quiz

I was not very disciplined in high school. I struggled through most of my classes and was always happy to see a mark as high as a B-. This quiz proves it. However, in my defence .... I did graduate in 1980, and never pursued any further education.

I can't believe I just told you when I graduated! I must be going senile!

Sunday Morning Education

I slept poorly last night, so I didn't make it to church this morning.

However, I did find this fascinating article on the web, and I had to share it with you.

If you don't like bugs (ants specifically) then don't watch.

Bright spot in my blues

This is a music video by a friend of mine. She's just put out her first CD, and her CD launch party/concert is this weekend. I think she's extremely talented.

Check her out.

(Side note: the video was shot locally. My hometown.)

I used to work with her husband, the handsome fellow that walks beside her. they are the cutest couple!! Rivalled only by Hubby and me! They're just 20 years younger.

In other news .... winter blahs have set in and I really need some sunshine. Please Lord, could we have a couple of days (I'd even settle for one day) of sunshine. This is one of my handy excuses for not blogging - I just don't have it in me. But I have been keeping an eye on you. Yes, that means you!

Friday's Feast - A final for 2007

Two posts in one day. Who'dya thunk?

Appetizer
Name 2 things you would like to accomplish in 2008.
This will sound cliche, but I'd like to lose some weight (you see I said 'some' not all 50lbs). And I'd like to be more active with my girlfriends. Which I suppose actually means find some friends to do things with.

Soup

With which cartoon character do you share personality traits?

Anyone who knows me will know that I have to say Spongebob Squarepants. The only difference being is that I think my IQ is a little higher.

Salad
What time of day (or night) were you born?
I was born on a Friday morning at 6am.

Main Course
Tell us something special about your hometown.
Hometown has meant many places over the years. I barely remember the town I was born in and lived for the first 10 years, but it has a special place in my heart. For the last 22 of my 45 years, Victoria has been my hometown and I LOVE IT!! The West Coast! The Pacific Ocean! The weather (not nearly as much rain as you might think). Green Christmas'! I met the love of my life (Christ) and my husband here (15 years apart). I love this city! What can I say.

Dessert
If you could receive a letter from anyone in the world, who would you want to get one from?
I totally concur with Christine on this one. There is no "one" person, and I will gladly exchange a card or letter or postcard with anyone who will participate.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
