Note to Self

In next job application for an "Office Manager" make sure to have the company define the category "Other job duties as assigned".

I have lost count on how many loads of wash I've done (at the office) of table cloths and tea towels today. I started when I got in at 8am this morning, and only just put the last load of tea towels in at 3:45 this afternoon.

Its getting on my last nerve people. Can her feel my frustration!

Advertising for Dummies

Here we are having arrived at Friday again. Seems to come rather often really, every seven days or so .... Just can't stop a good thing.

This week has been rather uneventful and slow(er), but not in a good way. Quite quickly on Tuesday morning it became apparent that the week would be unfolding unpleasantly. Computer problems at the office.

There is absolutely NO WAY anyone can convince me that Mac's are superior to PC's - NO WAY!!

And whatever you do upon reading that sentence - do not send me "comments" trying to convince me otherwise. Resistance is futile.

I will not delve any further, except to say - today is Friday and the difficulties have not changed one iota! So I happily go home to my PC laptop.

I am happy to report that I made it through Valentine's Day without shedding one single tear, or having the mildest of tantrums. I'm not sure if that's a sign of lost hope, resignation, or a numbness to the realities of married life. As usual it went unnoticed by the male population in our house. With the exception of the following day being told "Happy Un-Valentine's Day".

On another unusual note to my week - I received some mail at work from a company that we deal with for our copier. The previous week I'd been visited by our new sales rep, and his supervisor. This week I get an post-card ad from said new barely twenty-something sales person.

The catch phrase across the top of the 3x9 inch coloured postcard read "Call us if your copier still sucks". The "still" was written like an after-though with a little ^ interrupting the sentence to insert it for emphasis. And just below that it read "it's just that easy!" leading into a grinning head shot of our oh-so-naive new sales rep.

Where do I begin? My first complaint - the word "sucks". It's one thing to say it, it another thing to use it as your advertising slogan.

AND - since we already have a copier from this company - is he calling his own product down?

Then - WHAT is "just that easy!"? Calling them? If you're already leasing one of their machines and it "sucks" wouldn't you have already been on the phone complaining?

I got this piece of 'crap' in the mail on Wednesday and I'm still incensed. I've called and left a message with our rep's supervisor, but lucky for him he's off sick.

Yes - I know I wrote the work 'crap', you don't need to remind me of my hypocrisy. I'm not using the word in an advertising slogan for the church now am I?

Does anyone else see what's wrong in this advertisement? Is it just me? Am I being an old fuddy-duddy? I know I'm not 'hip', but I like to think I'm flexible and accepting of others and generational differences.

Although .... does anyone remember the "Church Lady" from Saturday Night Live in the 90's??

Thank you Lord for Fridays

I can't stop yawning today. It's only 3pm and I still have another 90 minutes to go at work. (Yes - I know I'm writing here during work hours, but its slow and no one is here, and I have moved beyond the motivation to do MORE data entry for one day. So there!).

There's a "Seniors Sweetheart Valentines Tea" going on across the hall from my office. To get in you have to show your birth certificate carved in stone with Moses' signature at the bottom. They're all pretending they're young and single again and can eat sugar and drink caffeine. They'll be paying for it later. I think the youngest one over there is in their early 80's. Ah, but it does my heart good to hear them sing the old (and I do mean "OLD") time hymns. It's awesome watching those folks take themselves off their oxygen long enough to really belt it out!

My week started out moving rather quickly, but the last two days!! Oy Vay! but I think I see the clock moving backwards. I'm not sure if time is standing still because I'm working through data base date entry (snoozer), or because insomnia is my new companion.

Ya, Insomnia. I thought I was making a trade up when I switched out Depression for Insomnia. Depression was such a downer, it was time for him to move on. Insomnia is more of a 'party all the time' kinda girl, but when does she rest? Constantly wanting someone to hang out with her. Doesn't she know I have to work in the morning??

Thank you Lord for Fridays!

Some days are just like this ...

but without drugs.

David kind of sums up how I've been regarding blogging (and life) lately. I have been absent, not quite in touch with my blogging reality. Poor kid!

January seems to always hit me like a ton of bricks. I want to up my dosage of anti-depressants or go to bed on December 31st and not wake up until February 1st. January is just not a kind mistress. To complicate things, it was a very busy month.

To start off - I had a job change (again). Well, more apt is a job description change (again). A large component of my job was taken away and contracted to someone else. At first the news really hurt, but I came to realize that it was all for the better. It was just the ugly head of low self esteem rearing up and accusing me of being a failure - once again. It's never easy for me to accept that I haven't done a job or task well. Not that I'm a perfectionist - far from it, you should see my house. Its more that sometimes I compare what I do with what others do, and I seem to need to be 'one-up' in things. Probably deep seated control issues.

All that to say - - - after having been in the no position (or old rotational position) I kinda like the new lay of the land. For having such a large portion of my job removed, I'm still just as busy and am in fact attending to things better. What does that say about expectations?

The hubby and I also bought a new car. We started looking in one direction (a truck) and ended up purchasing a new car instead. Complete juxtaposition in choices. Toyota Tacoma Truck vs. Chrysler 300. Go figure. What you need to keep in mind here is that I walk to work. (If you can call the leisure stroll of 100 feet from house to office a walk.) But the husband commutes a long Victoria commute of 25 minutes. So essentially the vehicle was to be his choice as he is the primary driver in the family.

Without going into details, we're a month into the new car (which is a lovely luxury car but not what I had in mind) and hubby is kicking himself for not getting the truck. Many sleepless nights have ensued since the 300 came home.

Also in the month of January the Mr. and Me got more serious about house hunting. Prices are beginning to fall and become slightly more affordable. I say slightly because I find it ludicrous that someone would ask $425,000 for a 2 or 3 bedroom home equivalent to the size of a thumb tack. AND they've recently reduced the price by $10,000, while they're neighbour sold theirs for $450,000 for the same cookie cutter style house just last year at this time.

What's up with this market???

What is almost scarier to me is the fact that the bank will actually loan us enough rope to experience apoplexy of the indentured kind. I shudder to think.

So you see, gentle readers, I have not been lost in the geographical sense, merely meandering in the muck of life. Oh ya, and one more thing - January 16th marked my 5th anniversary of blogging. Happy Anniversary to Me! I wonder if I'll get flowers. DOH! No!

Have a happy weekend!

An Odd Conversation between Man and Wife

My husband and I have been entertaining the thoughts of purchasing our first home. The real estate market has finally turned in our favour, and the plethora of choices are before us.

Specifically this week were were talking about the 'must haves' for our potential new home, and some of the documented 'don't do's' in purchasing.

One of the 'must haves' from me is a minimum of three bedrooms, one good size master bedroom, a spare bed room for visitor's or more specifically - the In-Laws, and one other room as an office. We also need space for my crafts and the husbands model trains, but that's an entry for another day.

One of the 'don't do's' that hubby read about was that you should never get into a new home and immediately purchase all new furnishings. Instead, you should move in and get get a good feel of the place and how your lifestyle fits into it.

When the hubby told me about this my first response was "I'm sorry, but there is one necessary purchase that will have to happen!"

"What's that?" he said.

"Twin beds" I replied.

My hubby's face fell momentarily, then began to gather serious storm clouds, and just before he was about to retort my request I followed by saying "for the spare room for when your parents visit. I don't want your mother sleeping on our couch any longer."

Relief flooded his face as he realized his assumption jumping thoughts had almost got his tongue in trouble.

Couldn't be further from the truth

I love taking online quizzes, and when this one showed up on Poolie's blog I thought I'd give it a try.

More often then not I'm amazed at how close to the truth these quizzes turn out. NOT in this case - it has the audacity to actually use the work "extrovert" in a descriptive of me. SO not true.

But take this quiz, it will only take a moment, and let me know how things turn out for you.

I took the 43 Things Personality Quiz and found out I'm a
Tree Hugging Fun Loving Extrovert

In other news .... 2009 is upon us. I fell asleep at 11:50pm on New Years Eve. What I really wanted to do was out playing card and board games with people. But for the 7th year running I was at home quietly with the hubby (talk about introverted - but I love him none-the-less). I vow to be more social next year.

Something very strange always comes over me on the day of New Year's Eve - I become quite melancholy verging on maudlin. Several times the husband asked me why I was so quiet, but I couldn't answer him. It's as if all the "not saids" and/or "not dones" creep over me as I feel the last few sands of the year filter through the hour glass. Come the morning of January 1st I am completely over it and ready to start a new year.

So here we are - new year - new starts - life keeps moving along. I make no resolutions, that way - I brake no resolutions. So you'll get no resolution reporting from me.

That said - I pray this new year meets you all happy and healthy, and I look forward to continuing our blogging relationship!

God bless each and everyone of you!
