Fridays stuff

I can hardly believe its Friday already – AND the end of September. October starts on Monday!!!!!

I am terribly excited though – next week is a short work week for me, as I start my last time of holidays on Thursday. Hubby and I are off to Jasper for my oldest nieces wedding next weekend. I keep fairly close tabs on my three nieces via Facebook. (Yes – I joined those ranks, but I don’t quite understand the addiction to it.) The benefit of this has been that I’ve been able to see pictures from their adventures, and in particularly recently pictures from the variety of Bachelorette parties that have been thrown for my girl Les.

I look at the pictures and think how young they all look, how much fun they’re having, and ‘darn’ but why can’t I be doing those things. A specific example is that a group of friends, and Les’ twin sisters took Les to the ski jump hill in Calgary. I can’t think of the name of it. When there is no snow, they convert the dramatic drop to a zip-line that seemingly lasts for miles. How much fun would that be??? I’m mean seriously – I would be screaming the entire time, but loving it!! I’m jealous; it looks way to cool for words. And to do it with a group of friends!!!!

This is when I realize that I’m not that young anymore. I don’t do cool fun stuff like this now. I am very close to my nieces, and I’d like to think that I could do stuff like this along side them, but then I realize that I’d probably stick out like a sore thumb. I would be the ‘older person’ that’s amongst them. I look at them and don’t immediately see the age difference, but the fact is that they would look at me and think along the lines of their parents – old.

Ah, cruel cruel world!

In the mean time – I’ve got me some workin’ to do! So today, I will leave you with my Friday Feast.

Appetizer
How are you today?
I’m tired, and extremely grateful that it’s Friday. But most of all – I’m doing great!

Soup
Name 3 television shows you watch on a regular basis.
New Season brings all new shows. I would be lost without a TV because it really is down time for me. The three shows I don’t like to miss are: Ugly Betty, Survivor: China, and CSI: Las Vegas. Which, coincidentally all premiered last night. I was in TV heaven.

Salad
What’s the scariest weather situation you’ve experienced?
Weather situation on land - I can’t think of one. But once while taking a catamaran ferry between Seattle and Victoria we hit some high winds and high waves, causing some extreme rocking and rolling. This was a little unnerving to say the least. I was not thrilled at the prospect of taking a swim in the ocean in the middle of January. I kept reassuring myself that catamarans are not prone to flipping, especially ones as large as we were in.

Main Course
If you could wake up tomorrow morning in another country, where would you want to be?
Disneyland!

Dessert
What do you usually wear to sleep?
Whatever will keep me the coolest (I’m a little furnace), short of naked. I don’t do naked; I find it makes me feel very insecure and vulnerable, which only leads to a bad sleep. It’s not worth it. I long for the days when I wore flannel, all wrapped up comfy and cozy. Now, I’m perimenopausal. Nuf’ said!

Fashion and Food - kinda

We're heading up island to a wedding tomorrow. I get to try out my new dress ensemble that I specifically purchased for my nieces wedding next month. The wedding tomorrow is my the hubby's Uncle. This will be Unk's 3rd wedding, but to be fair - his second marriage lasted 30 years and she died of cancer over a year ago.

However, I get the feeling that this wedding is causing a bit of family controversy. On the upside - I'll get to visit with my sister-in-law that a barely know.

Well that was all Blah, Blah, Blah wasn't it? It must be Friday, and I'm trying to post more than just the "Fridays Feast".

Appetizer
What is your favorite type of art?
Art is subjective – didn’t anyone ever tell you that??? Art can be a brilliant cello soloist, a Michelangelo sculpture, a child’s finger-painting, or one of my paper-craft or photo cards. Do I have a favourite – not really. Do I know what I do and don’t like – most definitely!! Can I explain it to you? Nope.

Soup
When was the last time you got a free lunch (or breakfast or dinner)? Who paid for it?
Tuesday, one of my co-workers (the creepy one) took me out. I got cornered and couldn’t say no. Even a free lunch has a price.

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how emotional are you?
Today? In general?? How about a 8, or 8.5. When watching the movie Braveheart, I cried during the battle scenes where all the horses were killed by giant spears, arrows and swords. I couldn’t care less about all the men getting killed … but watching the horses was horrid. Don’t even get me started on Romantic Comedy’s when things don’t “look” like they’re not going to work out like they’re supposed too.

Main Course
Approximately how long do you spend each day responding to emails?
Because I sit at a computer all day at work, and e-mails are a big part of my job – a few hours if I had to break it down. E-mails are a HUGE part of my life – professional and personal.

Dessert
To what temperature do you usually set your home’s thermostat?
In the summer we have no control – hot outside – hot in. But in the wintertime, daytime temperature (when we’re home) is usually around 70 and nighttime temperature we turn it down to 62 or 63. As yet, we haven’t had to turn the furnace on – thankfully. But the time is coming soon. Sooner than I’d like.

Happy Friday everyone!

Post Anniversary, Post Dentist Post

Our anniversary turned out to be a kind of non-event. By the time that Friday evenings roll around we’re both wiped out. We had talked about going out to a nice dinner, maybe even the restaurant that T took me to the night he proposed. But when he got home from work on Friday neither one of us had the energy to get all dolled up for each other. What does that say about out relationship?

We did, however, still go out for dinner – just not as fancy as we had originally planned. Funny thing though – both hubby and I had our taste buds all wrapped around “Prime Rib Night” at our not-so-fancy Anniversary meal restaurant, but once we sat down and began to look over the menu – we both ended up being a fish & chips kinda couple.

I am a little disappointed in one teensy, little area of our anniversary. And I recognize that this is a bit of a pity party of one – but it’s my blog and I can write whatever I want too!

My husband didn’t buy me flowers. I don’t think it even crossed his mind.

For some reason, this didn’t / doesn’t / hasn’t sat will with me. What a terrible, selfish woman I am. Please forgive this petty heart.

Pity Party Over.

Back to reality and regular life on the planet.

I was back at the dentist today. Yippy! (sarcasm dripping, just a second while I get a napkin) He had to fix the same tooth he worked on just a couple of weeks ago, and he give me the news that I need a root canal on another tooth. I’ve never had a root canal, but the whole name of it sends chills up my spine. Even when the cute spin doctor tries to candy coat (no pun intended) the situation. He even showed me someone else’s x-rays, to explain the procedure and how ‘eeezeee’ the hour and a half event would be.

Who’s he kidding??? EEEEZEEE for WHO???

The big question for me now is – when should I plan this toothy happening?? During my holidays in October??? Or during a regular workday so I can take the day off and drown my painful sorrows on the sofa??

Ya know …. This is just more proof as to why God chose not to give us children. I can barely stand my own whining let alone any children and a husbands.

I know, I know – I gotta get over myself!

Maybe tomorrow. We’ll see.

An entry NOT involving a cat - REALLY

Today – September 14th – is my hubby and me’s 5th wedding anniversary. I am blessed.

It hasn’t been easy, and this last year has been particularly difficult – at least for me. I’ve struggled with expectations, and often wondered … where is this all leading. But, I wouldn’t trade hubby in for anything. Next to God – T is the love of my life.

I look back at five years and also wonder where is all went. It’s happened so fast. It seems like I was just living in romance la-la land and planning the wedding. I blinked and woke up five years later, and all connubialed!

This morning my husband presented me with a little gift of a pewter heart on a necklace with matching earrings, all to be kept together (when not being worn) in a little pewter heart shaped box. Very sweet. And a very lovely heart-felt Hallmark card, that says so much.

I presented him with a homemade card (can’t get away with anything less) and a Chimenea. He likes to burn things, and like to sit outside. The odd dilemma in this choice of gift is that in the municipality that we live in you are not allowed make use of these items in your yards. However, the Fire department turns a blind eye to the whole thing. So frankly, I’m not sure if we’ll ever be able to use it – but I sure like the thought of trying. (I’m a true misfit at heart).

Speaking of homemade cards …. Ahem …… Earlier this summer I participated in the blogging worlds (ok – actually just a small universe inside the larger realm) “Great Summer Give Away”, and I offered up 6 of my homemade cards. Last Friday, if you recall, alluded to the fact that I was finally going to mail off my creation to the winner.

Today I received an email from Laura to say that she’d received my cards and had posted them on her site. I had forgotten to take pictures of them before I mailed them off, so I was pleasantly visually pleased to see them again. I hope that she will put them to good use.

Now …. I have to get my untalented butt back into crafting mode as I have 6 more cards to send off to My Ms Violet. I promised her some prezzies shortly after the summer give-away. Thankfully – the fall always brings out the homebody crafting person in me – so it shouldn’t take long.

Anyway kids – don’t except candy from strangers and don’t eat yellow snow. There is my advice for you for a Friday! Go have some fun!

Enough about cats already!!!

You Are: 40% Dog, 60% Cat

You and cats have a lot in common.
You're both smart and in charge - with a good amount of attitude.
However, you do have a very playful side that occasionally comes out!

Wordless Wednesday

I'm a first timer at this "Wordless Wednesday", and I know I've already defeated the purpose by putting these few words here, but if you're going to play along please leave a comment and see what you got "not" to say :P

Another Pirate Story

Are you tired of hearing about silly little Pirate kittens? That’s too bad, ‘cause I got another one.

Pirate must be part water rat – he just can’t get enough of playing in it. So much so that in all the “how to discipline your kitten” books they always recommend using a spray water bottle to deter them from whatever deviousness they get into - - he pretty much begs to be sprayed. It makes no disciplinary impact on him what-so-ever.

I digress ….

Last night I thought I would draw myself a bath. So I started said bath – with a furry onlooker of course, and wandered off to tell the hubby what I was doing. It had momentarily crossed my mind that I should check in on monster rate – just in case he might ‘inadvertently’ fall in and potentially drown. I went back down to the bathroom, and it was obvious that immanent dunking was mere minutes away. Pirate was precariously perched on top of the faucet filling the tub.

I giggled, and backed out slowly to get the hubby for this photo-op, but no sooner had I called down the hall then a large “splooooosh” occurred in the tub.

At this I laughed heartily and loudly, and ran over to Pirate to rescue him from the depths of his misadventures. He had a very startled look on his soaking wet face. Scooping him out and cuddling him too me I grabbed a towel and quickly wrapped it around him. His repetitive tiny sneezes sent another ripple of giggles through both the hubby and I. TOOOOOO CUTE!!

Curiosity did NOT kill this cat. I had my bath, and he sat on the side of the tub alternating between cleaning himself and watching the water.

Silly Pirate.

Moody, Monstrous, Muggwhumpy Monday

I am SOOOOO blessed!!

Yet I'm feeling negative, tired, and down. Mostly tired. It was a busy weekend, after an extremely busy week. Our church had our annual "Open House" yesterday after service. Lots of people and chit-chatting, questions, direction pointing, introducing, etc... etc ... etc.

It was my job to man the office and invite people in to have a look around. I found it rather funny that people had one of two reactions to coming in the office:

Very tentatively - - "Can I really see the office!!" with almost awe and wonder plastered on their faces. I never really realized that the office held such mystery and fear.

or conversely:
"Where's Pastor J's office, I and want to take a souvenir", or "Does Pastor A keep candy in his desk?".

Who knew people could be so strange about a church office?

Speaking of our church office - - - is anyone interested in coming in to be my holiday relief from October 4th to 14th? I promise it'll be easy, and the pay is not that bad. I can't find anyone yet. I don't know what I'll do if I can't. Part of me thinks these folks should just fend for themselves, but the part of me that has a work ethic thinks it wouldn't be fair or nice to do that. So I suspect I won't.

God will supply - right!?

Anyway - TTFN. I'll be posting a new picture on Wednesday. Then I can actually have a "Wordless Wednesday" like Christine sometimes does. I've always wanted to play, but never had a picture to post.

But you'll have to wait.

Blessings - LJ

Friday Fill-In

1. I admire _my cats lifestyle_(LOL!).
2. I crave _Salty foods (today)_.
3. I dislike _sardines (but the hubby loves 'em)_.
4. I enjoy _crafting_.
5. I wonder _about dying_.
6. I want _to be debt free_.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to _doing nothing_, tomorrow my plans include _finaly mailing out my "Great Summer Give Away"_ and Sunday, I want to _sleep in_!

For those that haven't given up on me - please play along with this meme (you don't have to call it Friday Fill-In), and comment here so we can compare answers.

My week has been extremely hectic. I have decided that THIS week is the tester to see if I can actually handle the new job description I walked into in April. And I came to the conclusion that ....

I can do this, but not EVERY week - Please Lord, don't let THIS be the norm!!

I'm exhausted, and prayerfully hoping that Pirate (the kitten) doesn't wake me up between the hours of midnight and 9am. Yet, somehow ..... I don't think I'm going to get this prayer request. I am seriously considering wearing a turtle neck and a balaclava (3 hole ski mask).

Ya wanna know why?

Between 3 and 7am I every night, I get a purring wake-up call. A suckling, paw kneading, wake up call.

I'm not asking for much. I just ONE solid nights sleep.

But he's so darn cute! ..... annoying at time .... but cute.

I'll keep you posted.

Good night!
