J.D. Salinger died today at the age of 91. He was a reclusive writer, and was best known for "Catcher In The Rye".
I never got what all the fuss was about that novel. I read it in my teen years. I read it because everyone said it was controversial and band from Canadian schools. Or at least I was given that impression. We all know that if something is made 'taboo' that any self respecting has to get their hands on it... right?!
So, I'm asking - did you ever read it? Did you get it? What was all the hullabaloo about?

I read it and liked it. I don't really get why it was so "controversial" and banned. A lot of books that are banned I don't really get why....
I loved it and decided to keep reading banned books for the rest of my life.
I did not like it... it did not really interest me and I just did not like the writer's character, he always thought everything was phony. It was an annoying book to me
I liked that book. I felt like I related to it. The reason it was banned was probably some of the subject material. The character was depressed and there were a few curse words if I remember correctly, and I think a boy was abused... I've read several books of the sort, but I believe it was Catcher.. Also, no one had really delved into that schism between childhood and adulthood like Salinger did in this book.
